"I was seeking a way to express and heal my wounds. The band aid then became a symbol for all kinds of difficulties – personal and social — seeking fix."

Dede Bandaid

Dede Bandaid is a multidisciplinary urban artist based in New York City whose work bridges public space, studio practice, and mixed-media experimentation. He began creating art in the streets of Tel Aviv after completing his military service and later refined his visual language while studying at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. Today, his practice spans murals, installations, assemblage, collage, and painting, evolving from his early street interventions into a mature body of work grounded in materiality, narrative, and place. His works can be found in galleries, museums, art fairs, and public spaces worldwide, including New York, Montreal, Mexico City, London, Berlin, Paris, Prague, Tel Aviv and more.

Dede’s inspiration emerges from the urban environment and the social and personal questions it provokes. He draws from the structures, textures, and overlooked fragments embedded in city landscapes, using them to explore themes of identity, trauma, belonging, and the paradoxes of contemporary life. His ongoing exploration of healing and repair, rooted in personal trauma, remains central to his work. Alongside this, a separate preoccupation with the tension between “home” and “away,” shaped by travel, relocation, and shifting environments, continues to influence both his studio practice and his public pieces.

Outdoor sites and discarded materials often serve as the point of departure for his pieces. In the studio, he expands these sources into layered works through assemblage, collage, painting, photography, and installation. Found wood, cardboard, newspapers, industrial remnants, and man-made leftovers form his material vocabulary, grounding each work in the physical and emotional contexts from which it originates. Dede frequently works in series, allowing concepts to unfold gradually and deepen across multiple pieces.

His works are always site-sensitive, conceptually and physically, tied to the environments in which they are created. Whether installed in the street or developed in the studio, each piece maintains a deliberate relationship between idea, location, and material process.

At the core of Dede’s practice is a desire to create meaning, to leave a mark, and to use art as a form of presence. His work stands as a statement of existence, an attempt to communicate, question, and connect through the layered stories embedded in the urban landscape.
